Tchaikovsky,
Serenade for Strings The Wild Ginger Philharmonic recorded
in performance
"Frankly, [the] band fills a great void in
classical music--namely, an ensemble that presents music in a compelling,
interesting style. Most of the groups I've heard during the past
few years...border on the narcoleptic. From the clips I heard
on the WGP website, at very least the approach is one of the few that
embraces music, rather than embalms it. I also admit that it's the
first time that I've been anxious to hear standard repertoire in
a long, long time! In fact, only the SF Symphony with MTT has come close
to garnering reviews that even hint at an exciting performance. It's
also a sad measure of the state of things that most symphonic audiences
are dwindling from boredom, too-conservative management, and poor promotion." - E-mail from web site visitor
